Letter 4 Lovely walks and trashing my bed!

Hello all,

Hope you are well and busy packing for your move.

I though about 'Bubsie' lots today, 'Mouse' has been away since yesterday so I have had no one to play with. 'Lordy' has been very nice but he did steal my breakfast while 'New' mummy was out of the room! We had a short walk together in the morning but sadly he is so slow I went ahead without him and chased a pheasant up through the hedge. The cheeky bird swore at me for disturbing him so I barked back as loudly as I could! 'Lordy' complemented my technique which made me feel very smug!(can't wait to tell mouse). As we walked back, he told me a trick of zig zaging up the hedge, he said on the whole it would yield much better results! Ha, I will try that tomorrow with Mouse!!!

As 'New' mummy knew I was missing Bubsie, she took me to visit my new friend Herbie. He was very pleased to see me as was his owner who is a lovely lady called Margaret. She has recently become a widow. Herbie told me lots about her late husband who was known as Fred, although his real name was Carol. He sounded like a really interesting character who loved farming and tractors. I have heard 'New' mummy talk fondly of him,  she would often go and have a natter with him about the horse trade and who was racing well from the local trainers yards. She tries to visit Margaret as often as time allows.  Margaret is not used to living alone, they were married 55 years! She is doing a grand job of coping and managing the house all by herself, even having suffered a stroke a few years back! Today she had made a cake which we all shared, it was the first cake she had made for years, it was very good even if 'new' mummy picked the currents out before letting me have any! she said they are bad for dogs as is chocolate.

Herbie told me was a rescue dog who had been mistreated by his last owner, he had fallen on his feet with Fred & Margaret and was very happy there. He also fancies me! I only want to be friends but he hasn't worked that out yet and keeps following me wanting a cuddle. I may have to have a firm chat with him next time.

'New' mummy went off early this morning with her portfolio thingy, I have been chastised one or two times for walking across it! She said my footprints would look unprofessional and washed them off. Bah, I had done that on purpose, I thought they added a bit of charm, after all, most of her pictures are of animals, why not suggest the content with a few muddy prints? Ho hum, I was most put out at having to stay behind, I did my best to get her attention by jumping up and doing my dance. She was a little bit prickly when I put my claws through her tights, she doesn't often wear them so jumping up isn't normally an issue. After changing her tights in what sounded like a hurry, (I was shut in my pen in the kitchen for the best part of this) apparently I was being annoying bitting the old pair before she could get them off.  I was shut safely in my pen while mummy was out, I wasn't happy!

To pass the time, I had a snooze, then barked a bit, snozed a little more & then couldn't get back to sleep for 'Lordy's' snoring. I decided to try to rearrange my bed. Yesterday I had been give a lovely sheepskin pad meant for a horse. As it was too small for Spider & Wizz, I was given it.  It is real sheep wool and very warm. I tried to make it into a nest, everytime I pushed it up where i wanted it, it went flat again as soon as I lay down. I tried several methods, the 'digging manouver', this just flipped it over which wasn't very comfortable on the suede side. The 'back kick method', this was an improvement but I just couldn't get it right. In sheer frustration, I decided to bite the corner and shake it while standing on it. By doing this a few times, managed had to chew off several pieces which when I had finished, resembled a huge pile of feathers! I settled on top of the pile and was asleep maybe 5 minutes when 'New' mummy returned.

The pile of sheepkin which had migrated accross the kitchen & blew up like little dust bowls as 'New' mummy walked in. I was met by an expression I have learned to be 'I am cross really but you arent in trouble and I am trying not to smile'. Once out and reasured with a fat cuddle, I was off round the garden to check for pheasants with 'Lordy' slowly wandering behind me to do his monotonous marking his territory thing. Mummy was left to clear up the mess I had made and had to thow out her second pair of tights. Tee Hee!

After lunch, which I was allowed to share (pitza crust). I was taken for a long walk on my own. I have never been for a walk on the big hill behind the village and enjoyed the new smells and plants. There was bracken everywhere, because it was all dead I couldnt go underneath it like in summer time so I stuck to the open spaces. At one point disturbed a squrrel who was so fast, he shot with lightening speed up into the trees before I even managed to bark!

I am now in my cat cave, on the desk dreaming of the wild boar burgers which came out of the freezer this morning, I know they are for me and I cant wait!

Bye Bye for now.

Love Poppy X
