Mouse.... Little Miss Slippy Knickers!

Hi all,

Hope all is well! Hey Bub's good job you aren't here! Mouse is in season and is flirting with uncontrollable regularity, even with me! Her current state would drive you insane as it is everyone else round here. Poor Lordy has been sent packing for three weeks, as he is entire and would definately father a litter of pups given the chance.

Lordy has to go on his holidays twice a year during this period, although he is quite happy with the arrangement; he gets to spend time with his other girlfriend, the gorgeous Gemma, a pretty black & white Springer Spaniel (she was Chris's old gun dog but his father took to her so much he didn't have the heart to take her away when he moved in with mummy) Lordy told me his holidays are a very relaxed affair, regular trips in the car, morning strolls round the curch yard and punctual meal times; at eight in the morning and six in the evening. Knowing when his food is coming is perfect for him as sometimes he has to remind mummy by poking his big wet nose under her arm and looking at the biscuit tin. He does this quite a lot, I have come to learn that Lordy reminds her just on the off chance that she might have forgotten and will give him seconds! To date this has not happened but he lives in hope!

Mummy & Chris are being extra vigilant with Mouse at the moment, this is the main week when she is properly in heat and they have to be sure she doesn't sneak off to make babies with some wandering stranger, although this is proving dificult! Two days ago, she decided to visit the neighbour's retriever dog His name is Murphy, he is a big handsome boy who barks a lot, (when his owners are talking, when he is let out, when he goes for a walk, when the school bus stops by, and so on.) Mouse was missing for les than ten minutes, mummys neighbour phoned to say that she & Murphy were up to no good by Margarets house (apparently Herbie was barking at them with envy through the fence!). They were caught behind a trailer, although everyone is sure the 'deed' had not been done.

Mummy was is a panic as she & Chris weren't aware Murphy is entire, they do want to breed from Mouse when she is older but will source a more suitable husband. Murphy is not on the list of suitors with fine breeding potential although he has a pedigree as long as his arm & good looks, sadly he wouldnt know what a gun is for and would definitely be too noisy to go stalking.  After lengthy discussions about 'had they' 'hadn't they', it was decided that Murphy, (despite his amorous efforts) had failed, apparently weary and anxious he spent the evening whining and staring at the fence praying Mouse would elope with him.

It is now two days on, all the holes in the fence have been blocked and the barking Murphy has been foiled yet again today following an attempt to join Mouse on her morning walk. He is really fed up and is pining for her in the garden, I tried to make him feel better with a joke and even did my dance to cheer him up but he is inconsolable! I hope this will be over soon.

I am off for a nap now in my basket with the red furry blanket. I have had a nice morning in the sunshine and one or two treats in the garden as well as being admired by the nice lady who delivers the parish magazine.

Will write again soon.

XX Poppy
