Hi all, Hi Bub's
Here is my latest update, I hope you are all well. I have missed you!
Apparently, because I have had such a lovely start in life, it has shaped me into the happy friendly little dog I am now. Because of you, I have been able to settle in very well and I am very grateful for the good start you gave me. Thank-you.
It is now Friday; the week has flown by! I have been very busy investigating the countryside and have now acquainted myself with the horses. I have been really brave but couldn’t resist barking at them when they rolled in the mud, they look very silly with their coats on. Apparently they get cold, I think it’s to stop them getting so dirty so they don’t need to be brushed so much! The old lady next door said I matched Spiderman, he’s one of ‘new’ mummy’s horses. He is very beautiful and is exactly the same colour as me! The other horse is very pretty; she is dark brown. Her name is Wizz but she is nicknamed ‘Mrs Miggins!’
Mouse is away working in Suffolk, she told me she was going to work in the Kings forest. She will be back later on & has promised to bring some venison back for me. Apparently it is very healthy meat with hardly any fat. Unfortunately I don’t like it, ‘new’ mummy gave me some with my biscuits but I think it tastes horrid, don’t tell her but Lord Gump ate it for me. I don’t think there is much in the way of food that he doesn’t like and he very kindly said that he would be on hand to help me with any food I couldn’t manage. It could be our secret
This morning I was a very spoilt dog, and was allowed to have a little lie in with ‘new’ mummy. It was still dark outside, she gets up quite early usually but today she decided to drink her tea in bed with me. I was very good and didn’t try to get under the covers, well only once! It was so nice I didn’t want to get up and to prolong the pleasure of the bed, I did a ‘rolly polly’ display and was allowed two more minutes!
Every morning is pretty much the same routine, out for a quick run then we go down the yard to feed & muck out, after that its breakfast. ‘New’ mummy leaves me inside while she rides out. She said I might be allowed to come if Chris is on foot to look after me. She never takes her eyes off me & worries that if she is concentrating on riding she is not watching me. Lord Gump said going out with the horses is boring anyway, so I am not missing out. Gump is so funny, he is very old and wise, I think I will earn a lot from him. The one thing that does make me laugh about him is his real name. Hurry-up; he’s the slowest dog in Shropshire! I was reminded that I too will be old one day and that his name comes from his blood line. ‘Scoloppy Hurrah’, whatever that means, he can be a bit of an old snob when he wants to be!
This morning I had fun; there are lots of pheasants in the field. I had a barking competition with a Cock pheasant, when I barked, he chucked, this went on for a while until he gave up and flew off into the wood. I won! I am going to bark at every pheasant I see now, just so they know who is the loudest!
It is now just after lunch, I usually get an afternoon snack and a nap while ‘new’ mummy does her drawings. She is an illustrator and has promised to do a picture of me. Right now I am standing on her desk with my feet on the window sill looking out of the window, I can hear the pheasants and I am ‘chuntering’ my annoyance with little growls and half barks. ‘new’ mummy seems to think it’s funny, just wait till later, I will be back down the field to bark at them….cheeky silly birds!
Gump said that ‘new’ mummy is a bit like Mrs Pumphrey & her Peekanese Trickywoo. She’s a character from All Creatures Great & Small by James Herriot. Funny thing is I think he might be right; she occasionally calls me ‘Pookaloo’ in a silly voice! The way she says it makes me dance round on my back legs, I love it that my dancing skills are appreciated and am so good that I can do a 360 with ease. When I do my dance routine, I get a round of applause!
Oh to be adored, this is the life!
Love Poppyx
