Hi All,
Last night we were all invited to mummy's friends for dinner, Lordy is not quite himself but was keen to come with us all the same. Poor old Lordy has been off his food since Sunday and is not his usual self at all, I have never ever seen him pick at his tea and never seen him turn down a treat. Mummy and Chris are keeping an eye on him and keep trying to tempt him to eat with tasty little human tit bits.
The evening was fun, we met Squigg, she's a really cute Jack Russell the same size as me! After introducing ourselves and realising that we had a lot in common, we played chase round the lounge. Squigg has a really cool technique of racing round on 'three wheels' using the sofa as part of her assault course to spring board from. Done very quickly as a tag team it is hugely entertaining and even made the humans laugh. We played for quite some time, Mouse joined in for a couple of sessions but could't keep up with us! Hurry chose to stay quietly out of the way, sleeping in an undesturbed corner well out of 'leaping' reach!
Squigg showed me her renowned trick, she jumps up her owner (James) and climbs up his body to sit on his shoulders round the back of his neck like a wriggly ('Squiggy') scarfe. Mummy was so thrilled that she instructed me to copy (I knew this was coming!) I found it quite odd at first and struggled to get my balance, it was easier with mummy's head tilted forward but I guessed that in that position she wouldn't be able to see properly so I had to adjust my position, I guess this is something requiring practice, I will somehow have to learn to work round this as mummy is not about to change the position of her head (not as far as I know anyway). To add insult to injury, Chris joined in the 'tom foolery' and sat with Mouse wrapped round his neck (Mouse is used to doing this) she sat there quite happily with her paws draped elegantly as if this were completely norman. I tried my best to relax and find the right spot but kept slipping, mummy steadied me a few times but I think I prefer 'terra firma' thanks!
On the way home mouse explained why the shoulder thing is a good thing. Apparently, it is a very useful for a deer dog to be able to do, in situations where you may be required to cross a fast river or rope bridge (what the hell is a rope bridge and do they really have them here?) Mouse said that sometimes Chris needs his hands free, if she can balance around his neck, it is safer. Yeah, maybe in the outback but this is Suffolk and I don't like heights, and I probably wont ever see a rope bridge to find out if I like them either! Rant over.....
