Wells Next Sea!

Hi everyone!

Mummy has been under the weather with one of her migrane'ie things (whatever that is) she goes a bit of a funny colour, slurs her words and looks odd, almost like she cant see, it is the strangest thing ever and sadly seems to knock her out for a couple of days. Chris brought her home from work early and put her straight to bed with me for company (wrapped in a nest of fluffy dressing gown) I felt very grown up having been given the responsibility of watching the patient, I did as requested by checking she was ok every half an hour and by licking her hand to remind her that I was there. I knew all was ok as every now and then the the hand would sneak into my fluffy nest and rub my head for reassurance.

The following day mummy seemed much better but was not her usual self and more unusually didn't ride the horses, all she did was go and feed them so we didn't get our usual ride out. Bah not fair. Late morning, all three of us sulking, mummy's friend she calls 'The Briggadeer' called in to drop off cartridge shells for Chris and generally make a cheeky nuisance of  herself. She is called the 'Briggadeer' because of her bossy military like manner which we all find quite amusing and endearing at the same time. We like 'The Briggadeer" she speaks 'mummy' and is a doggy person who lets us sprawl about with her on the sofa. The Briggadeer was followed shortly by mummy's sister (who we also like), and by all accounts was expected. There was mention of the sea which made Lordy prick his ears up and Mouse very restless. As soon as the 'dog' towels came out of the drawer, we then knew we were in for trip and struggled to contain our excitement as the the car was organised and the Briggadeer bid her farewells to join her weekend guest.

We had a reasonably short car journey and a further period of waiting in the car while the humans ate fish and chips from the same chip shop they always go to. The good thing about this is the wait is worth it, we know that we will be rewarded with chips and batter, the only disadvantage is Lordy's anticipation of the goodies to come, he sits and dribbles with glistening droplets of saliva gently stretching down like melting icicles from his hungry jowls, he really is special! Our patience was soon rewarded, this time a delicious equally sized pile of still warm chips on an a paper plate, one for each of us! I was particularly pleased with my serving which had mushy peas on some of the chips, I can see why the humans get so exited about this gastronomic adventure, it really is cullinary genius, made even better by the sea air and noisy sea gulls.

Fed, watered and parked up ready for our sandy expedition onto Holkham beach! Three 'poo' bags later, an embarrased mummy and an even more embarrassing labrador and we were on the beach itself, the vast swathe of sand which stretches as far as the eye can see interspersed with twinkling pools of salt water which in turn wind off into the distant setting sun. Mummy's sister took lots of photo's of us playing in the pools and swimming in the channel which leads down to where the boats live in Wells. Further up this channel were two seals, we watched them bathing and heaving themselves onto the sand for a while then played sticks with Chris while Lordy swam out and amused himself with his bouyant mobility. I must admit, even as an old dog, Lordy is a fine swimmer but not fine at getting out, he loves swimming so much that he has to be scalded to leave the water and when he finally does give in to leave, he grumbles and chunters.

Mouse and I swam too, Mouse must have been watching Lordy as she too is a fine swimmer and goes out much further that I do. I have noticed that since we last came here, my technique has improved, this can only be down to my trough jumping and long distance 'ride outs' with the horses, I am much stronger now and have more developed muscles in my thighs which must be a contributory factor.

Here is a picture mummy's sister took of us all, Mouse left, Chris, mummy, me and Lordy.

Catch you later! xx
