Hi All!
Hope you are all well.
Great News!!! Today I had my first taste of rabbit!
Mummy had taken us all for a our usual morning walk around the field behing the house (Now with barley growing, growing very quickly). As we walked up along woods and swamp as Mouse & I like to call it, (you go in dry and come out black wet & smelly!) we came across a buzzard on the path. Surprised by us, he flew up in an angry manner and sat staring at us from a nearby tree. he was quite big with beautiful feathers and a barred tail, when he flew up his wing span was magnificent, he appeared to just glide in an attractive 'V' shape. We must have startled him from his breakfast as there on the path where he had taken off from was a freshly killed rabbit. He must have caught him moments before we disturbed him.
I ran over to investigate, I was first one there so picked the rabbit up. It was definitely very fresh and was quite heavy & limp. I ran back to mummy, the poor dead rabbit dragging along through the long grass spraying seeds as I tried to keep my head up to see where I was going. I wanted to show off my find and although mummy knew it wasn't me who had killed it, still complimented me for picking it up. I felt so proud! Six months ago I only ate tinned food with dry biscuits. I have changed my eating habbits to include venison and bones, now I have my very own rabbit to try! I say 'my very own rabbit' I will be defending the right to eat this one, as Lordy has now 'clocked it'
I carried my prize for several yards, every time I put it down, Lordy tried to steal it, he made me very cross indeed!!! I snarled and growled puffing up my fur at the same time to look bigger. I stood my ground like a bull dog (although I didn't quite sound like one).
Mummy unaware of the dificulty I was having had carried on walking so I decided the best option was to eat the damn thing then and there. This proved to be more difficult than I anticipated, several mouthfull's of fur, several spluttered furry expletives at Lordy and one or two mufled growls at Mouse who by this time was also showing interest.
I did manage to eat some however, I must say it was rather nice! not as strong as venison and a very clean and fresh tasting meat. I did feel sorry for the rabbit but it was already dead and mummy is always banging on about folk being too wasteful in the disposable culture we now live in... blaa blaa
I was just getting on with things nicely when mummy appeared, concerned that I had not kept up the pace and wondering if something had happened. Satisfied that I was ok, she turned to walk off again. I decided I had done enough rabbit 'scoffing' and bounded down the track to catch her up. I was very pleased with myself, Lordy as too, he gobbled up the rest of the rabbit like an underfed shark and waddled along behind at his usual unhurried pace. He is such a piglet! Even Mouse left him to it!
Later.
